Broke Back Mountain

Brokeback Mountain keeps running through my mind...

Ennis and Jack, two people who love each other but cannot be with each other because of their situation and responsibility; they can only see each other once in a while.

Jack drove all the way from Texas to Wyoming hoping that he can stay with Ennis when he heard that Ennis got a divorce. But left with tears in his eyes because Ennis promised to be with his daughter.

The last time when they met, they were discussing when the next time would be to see each other. Enis told Jack he had to wait till November. Jack was pissed because they agreed before that they would spend sometime in summer together for the good weather. Ennis said that he can't, he got a work and kids to support. He can't get time off in summer, it's even hard for him to get this time. The summer time off is a trade off for this time. They started the argument and Jack finally burst out "You're too much for me, Ennis. I wish I knew how to quit you!"

-- Like vast clouds of steam from thermal springs in winter years of things unsaid and now unsayable -- admissions, declarations, shames, guilts, fears -- rose around them. Ennis stood as if heart-shot, face grey and deep-lined, grimacing, eyes screwed shuts, fist clenched, legs caving, hit the ground on his knees.
"Jesus," said Jack. "Ennis?" But before he was out if the truck, trying to guess if it was heart attack or the overflow of an incendiary range, Ennis was back on his feet and somehow, as a coat hanger is straightened to open a locked car and then bent again to its original shape, they torqued things almost to where they had been, for what they's said was no news. Nothing ended, nothing begun, nothing resolved.

Love, Pain, Frustration, are we all going through the same cycle? Nothing ended, nothing begun, nothing resolved.

Jack died in the story. I wonder how the story will end if Jack didn't die. When Ennis went to visit Jack's parent after he learned the news that Jack passed away. He learned that Jack had found someone else to live with -- Jack went back to his parent's place with the guy and worked on a small ranch together, like Jack always wanted to do with Ennis. What if Jack is still alive, what if Ennis found out that Jack got someone when he is still alive, what will happen? Will he give up everything and just go to Jack to win him back, or he would just leave Jack alone and go on his own life with a broken heart? But we'll never find out. The death of Jack makes a perfect story. Pain makes memory last forever. And the love you cannot have is always stronger and more passionate and seems more beautiful and perfect.
